On December 31, 2019 the amended Radiation Protection Act (StrlSchG) will come into force. After this date, protective measures must be provided against increased radon concentration in the room air when new buildings are planned or existing buildings are renovated depending on the potential of soil air and the intended use of space. In Germany radon is considered the second most common cause of lung cancer after smoking and before particulate matter.
Especially in the context of energetic modernization of old buildings with considerably reduced air exchange rates, radiation protection measures need to be examined and, if necessary, implemented.
